A warm welcome to Wings for Life School for Special Education. We are situated in Vanderbijlpark, South Africa.
It is our belief that all children have the right to a school and an education. Every child has the right to be respected for the person they are.
We care about, and provide education for learners with special needs using an autism specific approach. Our vision is to support and help them to reach their full potential in life.
Wings for Life was founded in 2006 to provide education for learners with special needs and to bring hope and encouragement to parents. Our primary focus is on providing education for learners with autism. We also have learners with a variety of syndromes. Every application is evaluated according to the need of the individual learner.
Our primary focus is on providing education for learners with autism. We have 8 classrooms, each with a teacher and a teacher’s assistant and can accommodate up to 64 learners, depending on the need of current learners. The teaching languages are English and Afrikaans.
Wings for Life is an outreach project of the Lutheran Church to the community in The Vaal Triangle.
We acknowledge that the learners are part of a family and aim to provide support to them – acknowledging a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
The following are ways in which we lend support to the families:
Parent support group – Parents meet regularly to support each other, to discuss topics relevant to them and to celebrate achievements.
Kids club – During the parent support group meetings, Wings for Life learners and their siblings are welcome to join the church’s Kids Club. Here they have the opportunity to participate in the programme with learners of the community. Wings for Life staff provide extra support, as needed.
Church with wings – During the 10:30 am Sunday services, the church provides a programme for children – “Kids church” and “Church with wings”. The Church with wings programme is specially developed for children with autism and special needs. Wings for Life staff are closely involved with this..

Curriculum
Individual Educational Development Plan: (IEDP): Each child is different and develops in a unique way , therefore having only one program in a classroom is not suitable. We work out a program for each child's developmental stage not necessarily their chronological age.
National Curriculum: We follow the national curriculum from Gr R- Gr 7
Extra-Curriculum Activities
We have a lot of fun developing the learners at Wings for Life. We aim to incorporate cultural and physical activities that develop their emotional-, social- as well as sensory level. Extra-Curriculum activities include piano and guitar lessons, art, choir and many more. For more information on extra-curricular activities, contact our office
