Our primary focus is on providing education for learners with autism. We have 8 classrooms, each with a teacher and a teacher’s assistant and can accommodate up to 64 learners, depending on the need of current learners. The teaching languages are English and Afrikaans.
Wings for Life is an outreach project of the Lutheran Church to the community in The Vaal Triangle.
We acknowledge that the learners are part of a family and aim to provide support to them – acknowledging a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
The following are ways in which we lend support to the families:
Parent support group - Parents meet regularly to support each other, to discuss topics relevant to them and to celebrate achievements.
Kids club - During the parent support group meetings, Wings for Life learners and their siblings are welcome to join the church’s Kids Club. Here they have the opportunity to participate in the programme with learners of the community. Wings for Life staff provide extra support, as needed.
Church with wings - During the 10:30 am Sunday services, the church provides a programme for children – “Kids church” and “Church with wings”. The Church with wings programme is specially developed for children with autism and special needs. Wings for Life staff are closely involved with this.
